How is Norovirus spread?
Norovirus, commonly known as the winter vomiting bug, is a horrible stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. Other symptoms may include nausea, a high temperature, headaches, and aching limbs.
Luckily, Norovirus typically only lasts in the body for around 2 days but is highly infectious and could prove dangerous to the elderly.
Norovirus is contracted when infected bacteria is introduced to the body and is spread very similarly to COVID-19. This could include eating or drinking foods and liquids that are infected with the virus, coming into contact with contaminated surfaces or objects, or sharing direct contact with someone who is infected.
The best way to minimise the spread of Norovirus if you contract it is to quarantine yourself as best you can until Norovirus symptoms have gone. However, it is important to keep in mind you might still be able to spread the infection for a few weeks after your first symptoms appeared. The best practice is to continue to sanitise all surfaces after you have used them, especially in communal areas around your home such as the kitchen counters and bathroom surfaces and wash your hands regularly and thoroughly.
